Customer Questions & Answers
-
Question:
What is PEC-12 Photographic Emulsion Cleaner used for?
Answer: PEC-12 Photographic Emulsion Cleaner is specifically designed to remove non-water-based stains, grease, and ink from emulsions and photographic bases. This cleaner is ideal for preserving the quality of 35mm film and other photography materials by effectively eliminating contaminants without causing damage. Users, such as photographers and film restorers, find it invaluable for maintaining the clarity and integrity of their images. -
Question:
How do I use PEC-12 to clean my film?
Answer: To clean 35mm film with PEC-12, apply a small amount of the cleaner onto a soft, lint-free cloth and gently wipe the emulsion side of the film. Ensure that you avoid excessive pressure to prevent scratching. This method not only lifts away stubborn stains and grease but also ensures a clean surface for the light to pass through. Regular cleaning keeps your films in optimal condition for viewing and archiving. -
Question:
Is PEC-12 safe for all types of emulsions?
Answer: PEC-12 is formulated to be safe for a variety of photographic emulsions, including those found in traditional film and photographic paper. It is essential to perform a patch test on a small, inconspicuous area to ensure compatibility before full application. This precaution helps to confirm that the cleaner works effectively without damaging sensitive surfaces, giving you confidence during the cleaning process. -
Question:
Can PEC-12 remove ink stains from photographs?
Answer: Yes, PEC-12 is highly effective at removing ink stains from photographs. Its specialized formulation targets non-water based stains, making it particularly useful in professional printing and photographic restoration. For best results, apply the cleaner carefully to the ink-stained area and allow it to penetrate before gently wiping. This technique is favored by professional restorers who need to preserve the visual integrity of damaged photos. -
Question:
What precautions should I take when using PEC-12?
Answer: When using PEC-12, always work in a well-ventilated area to avoid inhalation of fumes. Additionally, wearing gloves is recommended to protect your skin from potential irritation. Avoid using excessive amounts of cleaner; a small quantity is usually sufficient. These precautions enhance safety and ensure that you can handle your cleaning tasks without worries, especially in professional settings. -
Question:
How long does it take for PEC-12 to work on stains?
Answer: PEC-12 begins to work almost immediately upon application. Depending on the severity of the stain, you may need to let it sit for a brief period to penetrate effectively. For tougher stains, allowing it to rest for several minutes can yield better results. This quick action makes PEC-12 a preferred choice for photographers who need efficient solutions to maintain their work. -
Question:
Can I use PEC-12 on digital prints?
Answer: PEC-12 is not recommended for digital prints as it is specifically formulated for use on photographic emulsions and bases. Digital prints are typically produced on different types of paper that can react adversely to the chemicals in the cleaner. For maintaining digital prints, it’s best to use cleaning methods specifically designed for that medium to avoid damage. -
