It is made to be screwed into the wall or stud. If you were to screw the base into a heavier, wider base plate, it could be used for a desk lamp. You would need to adjust the two set (angle) screws and them leave it alone. The product can be hardwired, and it comes with everything to install. The package does not include installation instructions. The measurement of the light shade is 5.9 inches in diameter. In terms of reviews, the customers are happy with the product's quality, versatility, and ease of installation. Some buyers even love the dimmer switch and the remote. However, some were not happy with the drywall wall anchors that came with the product.
