The Little Bear B4-X portable tube amplifier has proven to be a solid and well-made unit that is reasonably priced. Despite the low cost, it offers an incredible and impressive sound, functionality, and style. The device has a solid heft with metal support plates and struts, making it feel sturdy despite not being an expensive device. It features a ceramic socket, and the power button has a somewhat cheaper feel, but the amp is still a great value for the given price. It leans towards warm tones with an emphasis on the low end but maintains clarity without any hissing or humming, even at max volume. Despite being marketed for up to 200-ohm headphones, it works well with 250-ohm headphones too. The only notable downside is that the volume control is gentle up for the first few turns and then raises more dramatically. The device can't handle 600-ohm sets either. The amp system doesn't amplify much but performs well to feed headphones with a "tube" sound. However, it doesn't work as a line level booster and requires a solid-state preamp booster to drive a sub. It works well as a little pre-amp for a Tripath 200w amplifier, but customers were unsure about the performance on a ClassD power amp and recommended initially testing before purchasing. The device isn't set up for a turntable and requires a separate turntable preamp to operate in conjunction with it. The device features 3.5mm AUX ports for power amp output.
