Tidal Wave [Blu-ray]

**** This Korean disaster film presents a unique blend of comedy and drama, encapsulating moments of tension and humor as it navigates the catastrophic effects of a tidal wave on a city. Viewers who embrace the comedy are likely to find it enjoyable, while those expecting a serious disaster narrative may face dissonance with its comedic elements. The film boasts well-developed characters, offering glimpses of emotional depth amid the chaos, although some viewers criticize the emotional stakes, suggesting the humorous approach undermines the gravity of disaster scenarios where lives are lost. A significant point of contention revolves around the film’s English dubbing. Many reviewers urge potential viewers to keep the original Korean audio with English subtitles, as the dubbed version is regarded as poorly executed, detracting from the overall experience. Those who heed this advice report a richer and more enjoyable viewing experience, prompting laughs and moments of connection with the storyline. Despite its polarizing reception, particularly regarding its humor and dubbing, the film stands out as a notable entry in the realm of Korean cinema and disaster movies. Its mixture of excitement and laughter makes it worthwhile for audiences who are open to cultural differences and energy-filled storytelling. **
