They are shiny white and made of stoneware. The product can be used in a regular or microwave oven. Customers have reported that they are good for spreading food and covering everything with sauce, better than standard bowls. The 40 oz. size of the bowls is perfect for a medium meal salad or serving of pasta. The colors are beautiful, and larger than expected, but certainly worth the price. The only issue customers have reported is that the "KooK" imprint on the bottom of the bowl will come off and can create a mess.
