Mystery & Thrillers Editorial Review
Twentynine Palms [DVD] [2003] is a gripping exploration of privilege and desolation in the stark desert landscape. The film follows David, a location scout, and his French-speaking girlfriend Katia, as they embark on a seemingly aimless journey filled with graphic encounters and moments of tension. The setting highlights the contrasts between self-absorbed urbanites and the harsh realities of a forgotten town. Reviews depict the film as a gritty social commentary that artfully captures the loneliness and dangers lurking in the desert, reminding viewers of the fraught dynamics between those with privilege and the marginalized. It's a challenging watch that resonates with contemporary themes of disparity.
