- Peroxide Gel as a spot treatment for acne on your body. Due to the high benzoyl peroxide concentration in the gel, this product is not recommended for all-over application. Benzoyl peroxide topical acne treatment can be used to treat any type of acne, but it is most effective on inflammatory acne, called acne vulgaris. It can also be used for whiteheads, blackheads, and cystic acne, but it should be used in combination with other medications for these types of acne. When selecting a benzoyl peroxide product, you may want to start with a 2.5 percent concentration, as it causes less drying and irritation, and then move to a 5 percent concentration if you see minimal results after six weeks.Clean the skin thoroughly before applying this product. Cover the entire affected area with a thin layer one to three times daily. Benzoyl peroxide usually takes about 4 weeks to start working. It can take up to 2 to 4 months for the treatment to have its full effect. For external anal itching: adults: when practical, cleanse the affected area with mild soap and warm water and rinse thoroughly. Gently dry by patting or blotting with toilet tissue or a soft cloth before application of this product. children under 12 years of age with external anal itching.
