Drama Editorial Review
"The Deadly Trap" is a French film from 1971 directed by Rene Clement. The film stars Faye Dunaway, Frank Langella, and Barbara Parkins and is a thriller about an American couple in Paris who have their children kidnapped by "The Organization" after Langella's character is re-contacted to resume his former occupation as an industrial spy. The film is a slow-paced, character-driven thriller that builds tension towards the climax. The film's moody score, atmospheric cinematography, and Parisian locations are some of its strong points, as well as the central performances from Dunaway and Parkins. However, Langella seems lost in his role, and Maurice Ronet's part is wasted. The film has never been presented on home video satisfyingly, and the Australian edition from Control Productions has a poor transfer with all the color faded out resulting in a film that is sometimes mistaken to have switched from color to black-and-white. Fans of Dunaway and Parkins and those who enjoy French cinema should give this a go.
