This editorial review is about the book "The Message of the Song of Songs". Gledhill, the author, does not interpret the Book of Solomon allegorically. The book comprises of a 20-page introduction and an 8-page overview of the text, followed by Gledhill's literal translation and free paraphrase of the book. The commentary explains 156 pages of 117 Scriptural verses, with an average of 1.3 pages of commentary per verse. The NIV text is included, printed in sections of one to several verses. The book is well-written and insightful, and while he meanders from the text, his excurses on related topics are fascinating. Although he seldom quotes other commentators in his book, Gledhill's interpretation is intelligent and profound. Highly recommended.
