What measurements can this LCR meter perform?
Answer: The LCR meter can measure inductance, capacitance, and resistance. -

Does it have an automatic shut-off feature?
Answer: Yes, the LCR meter includes an automatic power-off function for convenience. -

At what frequency does this measure inductance?
Answer: There is no spec in the instructions relating to the test frequency, however I have measured it on a scope and it appears to be a square positive pulse of 1m/S every 2.5m/S for all ranges of inductance, so around 2.5KHZ in my book (with lots of harmonics when applied to an inductor). -
Question:
Will this measure small inductances between 0.1uH and 1uH in addition to larger?
Answer: The lowest range is 200uH (three digits I.e 000.1) so may be able to resolve 0.1uH, however I doubt without much meaningful absolute accuracy in your range of interest. It is a very good little meter however, and seems to give sensible results otherwise. Kind regards. -
Question:
My capacitance readings all show as a negative value but appear to be correct. Is there a way to fix this?
Answer: Interesting problem. The fact that the readings are correct, it is tempting to assume the unit is ok. But from what I can see the unit never gives negative readings no matter what it is reading. The handbook says to make sure the capacitor is discharged otherwise you would be within your rights to be suspicious the unit is faulty. Hope this helps. -
Question:
Can this unit test mlcc cap values while still on the pcb or do they have to be removed?
Answer: You could in theory test the capacitor still on the PCB but they would need to be discharged first by shorting out both leads together. However the true value can only be obtained by removing the capacitor from the PCB and discharging it before testing it. Otherwise the rest of the circuit would have an effect on the reading on the meter. -
Question:
Does this meter measure Variable capacity?
Answer: They mean a variable mechanical capacitor with interlocking metal plates which used in older radios and transmitters. -
Question:
What is the difference between the yellow and red Proster BM4070 models?
Answer: To be brief, absolutely nothing. The models are orange or red not yellow or red and this refers to the casing and the colour of the legend on the meter. Apparently the red version weighs in at 600 grams and the orange 160 grams. I suspect this is error introduced by marketing. Why the £2.00 price difference between the colours, I have no idea, may be something to do with having different suppliers of the casing.
Proster Multi Testers TOPPST077 Editorial Review
The Proster BM4070 is a low-cost measuring tool for hobbyists that measures inductance, capacitance, and resistance. While its lowest inductance and capacitance ranges are only sensitive to frequencies around 1kHz, it is a spot-on meter with accurate results for larger capacitances and inductances. It did raise some concerns, such as the inability to zero the meter for low inductances, and the lack of support for measuring RF components. This is not the best tool to use for measuring low inductances or capacitance values. Despite these issues, it is a reliable tool that offers great value for money.
